Choose your format

Compare the GO HexStage formats

Choose HexStage 1 when linear travel is the priority, or HexStage 2 when a smaller diameter better fits the instrument. Both provide ±10° angular travel and 1 kg or 2.5 kg centered-load versions.

The 1 kg and 2.5 kg ratings correspond to the 15 N and 30 N Z-drive versions. We can check the working envelope against your combined translations, rotations and payload.

Six degrees of freedom

What is a six-axis positioning stage?

A six-axis nanopositioning stage controls three translations—X, Y and Z—and three rotations around those axes. These six degrees of freedom let you adjust a component’s location and angular orientation for spatial alignment.

GO HexStage combines these movements in one positioning platform, with standard and high-vacuum versions for instrument integration.

When evaluating a precision hexapod, compare the usable combination of translation, rotation and payload. For compact systems, also check mounting diameter, height and access around the component to be moved.

Closed-loop nanopositioning and vertical motion

Six degrees of freedom

Control translation along X, Y and Z together with rotation around each axis from one parallel-kinematic positioning platform.

Nanometer-scale linear increments

Piezo walking drives provide 2 nm linear minimum incremental motion over millimeter-scale travel for coarse adjustment and fine alignment in the same system.

High-force vertical positioning

Select the 15 N version to lift a centered 1 kg load or the 30 N version to lift 2.5 kg, with the same force choices available in both HexStage formats.

Smooth motion and self-locking

Closed-loop feedback supports smooth continuous movement and fast move-and-settle behavior, while the drives retain position without continuous drive power.

Compare GO HexStage models

Choose HexStage 1 for greater linear travel or HexStage 2 for a smaller mounting diameter. Both formats offer the same angular travel, linear minimum incremental motion and drive-version choices.

High-force vertical positioning

Select the drive version for your payload

Both HexStage formats combine strong Z-axis motion with fine control of position and orientation. Include the component, fixture and their center of gravity when specifying the system.

Match the complete working envelope

Payload capacity, center of gravity and simultaneous translations and rotations affect the usable motion envelope. We help check the combined requirement so the selected format and drive version fit the complete alignment task.

Six-axis control

Software and controller integration

GO HexStage operates through two daisy-chained GO Controllers. Each controller operates three drive stages; together they provide six control channels through one USB connection.

Plan mechanical and software integration together

The GO DLL C++ and complementary Windows app support programmatic and manual control. Use the product data sheets and STEP models to plan mechanical integration alongside the controllers.

Integration into active optical alignment

Active optical alignment uses a measured optical signal to guide positioning. Plan the optical measurement, feedback logic and alignment software alongside the motion system.

The GO DLL C++ and complementary Windows app provide options for integrating HexStage movement into that workflow.

High vacuum

10⁻⁴ Pa

Vacuum-compatible six-axis stages

HexStage 1 HV and HexStage 2 HV provide six-axis motion in high vacuum down to 10⁻⁴ Pa.

Vacuum-side cables connect through chamber feedthroughs to air-side cables and the controllers. Include mounting access, cable routing and chamber connections when configuring your high-vacuum positioning system.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a hexapod?

In precision positioning, a hexapod is a parallel-kinematic platform with six controlled degrees of freedom. A conventional Stewart platform uses six actuators connecting a base to a moving platform. A hexapod stage is selected as a complete mechanical and control system for the required working envelope.

What should I compare in a hexapod controller or six-axis control package?

Check the supported stage configuration, application software and programming interfaces. GO HexStage uses two daisy-chained GO Controllers and the GO DLL C++ with the complementary Windows app. The C++ DLL provides easy-to-use functions for six-axis programmatic integration.

Does 2 nm minimum incremental motion mean 2 nm accuracy?

No. The 2 nm figure specifies the smallest incremental linear movement. Positioning accuracy and repeatability are separate characteristics; consider them alongside payload, mounting and operating conditions.

When are three axes enough?

For planar X–Y–rotation alignment or Z tip/tilt adjustment, explore GO 3-axis stages. Six-axis control adds full spatial positioning and orientation.
